All But Challenged Ballots Are in the Count
The votes from all accepted Vote-By-Mail and provisional ballots have been included in the unofficial results of the 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election posted today, June 10. The results can be found on the Registrar of Voters’ website at ocvote.gov/results.
Only about 10,000 ballots could still be cured and added to the results. These ballots have been challenged because the signature was missing from the return envelope, the envelope signature didn’t compare to the voter’s signatures in their registration file, or the voter didn’t provide proof of identity when registering.
The Unofficial Election Results report is updated at 5 p.m. each weekday until the election is certified by the Registrar of Voters. After updated results are posted, a What’s Left to Process report is updated as well at ocvote.gov/results/whats-left-to-count.
As of 5 p.m. today, more than 800,000 ballots have been counted.
Pursuant to California law, voters with challenged ballots have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 to cure the challenge. This prohibits the Registrar of Voters from certifying the Orange County results of the Primary before Friday, June 26.
Note: Our Unofficial Election Results only includes ballots cast in Orange County. The overall results of statewide contests or for districts that cross county lines can be viewed on the Secretary of State's website at electionresults.sos.ca.gov.

Provisional Ballot Processing Complete
Registrar of Voters processed more than 2,100 provisional ballots for the 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election.
These included ballots from voters who registered to vote after May 18 or who registered and voted the same day at a Vote Center from May 23 to June 2.
Among the additional reasons voters may have voted provisionally are:
- Their name could not be found on the voter roster
- They provided an updated address that could not be found
- The roster showed they already voted in the election
All provisional ballots stayed sealed in a red envelope until the Registrar of Voters team investigated whether the voter was eligible to vote in Orange County and hadn’t already voted in this election.
Additionally, before counting a provisional ballot, staff verified and confirmed that all required information was provided.
If you visited one of our Vote Centers to register and vote on the same day or if you cast a provisional ballot during the 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election, you may check whether a provisional ballot was accepted and counted by visiting ocvote.gov/provisional and entering the code on your provisional ballot receipt. |

1% Manual Tally and Risk Limiting Audit
To ensure the accuracy of the 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election results in the county, Registrar of Voters conducts two audits during the Official Election Canvass.
Last week, we randomly selected precincts to include in the 1% Manual Tally audit and generated the random seed number that will help select the ballots for the Risk Limiting Audit.
This week, we will start to pull and compile the paper ballots to prepare for the manual examination and tally of the ballots. We expect to start hand counting or manually reviewing ballots for both audits next week.
1% Manual Tally
We randomly selected at least 1% of all precincts in the county. All ballots within the randomly selected precincts will be manually tallied by four-person teams and compared to the results starting on Monday, June 15.
Risk-Limiting Audit
Using a 10-sided die, we generated a 20-digit random seed number. Audit software will use the seed number to randomly select ballots for manual examination by four-person teams to reach a 95% confidence level that the outcome of a specific contest is correct. The RLA manual review will start on Thursday, June 18.
Video recording of last week’s random draw is available at ocvote.gov/results.
For more information on the audits, please visit ocvote.gov/audit. |

Post Election Logic and Accuracy Test
On Monday, June 15 at 8 a.m., Registrar of Voters will conduct a post-election Logic & Accuracy (L&A) test of the voting system equipment and software to ensure the accuracy of the results. The public is welcome to observe this important part of the election verification process at 1300 S. Grand Ave., Bldg. C, Santa Ana.
This test ensures that the equipment and software used to count votes are still functioning correctly. A similar L&A test was also performed before the election began.
During the post-election L&A test, each of the approximately 400 ballot scanners used in this election will be re-tested. Each scanner will process test ballots to confirm that it continues to count votes accurately.
For the latest information about daily canvass activities, visit ocvote.gov/observe.
Other canvass-related tasks include:
- Inspected all materials and supplies returned from 191 Vote Centers.
- Confirmed that all vDrives (also known as USB or thumb drives) from the ballot scanners assigned to our Vote Centers have been read and the votes on them added to the results, and that all ballots cast at the Vote Centers are accounted for in the tally.
- Verify that the State-certified voting system software has not been modified during the election.
- Duplicated any damaged and improperly marked ballots.
- Inspected every opened ballot return envelope to ensure all ballots were removed and processed for counting.

Signature Cure Process and Deadline
Registrar of Voters staff continue to process statements from voters trying to cure a signature challenge to their 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election Vote-By-Mail ballot so that their vote can be counted.
Pursuant to State law, all cure statements must be received by OCROV by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24.
The signature on every returned ballot envelope was carefully reviewed and compared to the voter’s registration signatures.
If the voter forgot to sign the ballot envelope or three Registrar of Voters staff determined the signatures did not compare, we contacted the voter via first class mail to give the voter an opportunity to cure the signature challenge. We also emailed or called voters who provided that contact information when registering.
When voters return cure statements, the statements are first scanned to allow the signature on the statements to be easily compared to the voters’ registration signatures. If the signature on the statement contains similar characteristics to the voter’s registration signature, the ballot will be processed and counted. The accepted cure signature will also be uploaded to the voter’s registration file to be used for signature comparisons in future elections.
If three Registrar of Voters staff find a cure statement signature possesses multiple, significant, and obvious differing characteristics when compared to the voter’s registration signatures, that ballot will remain sealed in its envelope and will not be counted.
In this election, 11,917 ballots have been signature challenged and 1,844 of those challenged ballots have been successfully cured by the voters through Tuesday, June 9.
If you received a challenge notice because you forgot to sign your ballot envelope, or the signature on your ballot envelope did not compare to any of your registration signatures on file, you can correct the issue by signing the cure statement mailed to you and returning it by mail, in person, email, fax, or mobile device.

You can also submit your signature verification statement using your mobile device. A link to the secure mobile cure application is posted on our website at ocvote.gov/votebymail.
For the 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election, the California Legislature passed a law that prohibits the Registrar of Voters from certifying the election before Friday, June 26 to provide voters the opportunity to cure signature challenged ballots up until 5 p.m. on June 24. |
