Orange County Voting Systems to be Checked for Accuracy

Test to take place in preparation for March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election

SANTA ANA, CA - Accuracy testing of Orange County's voting system will commence on February 14, 2020, and will continue until all devices have been included in the test. Due to the lengthy process of including all devices in the test, the Logic and Accuracy Test Tally may not commence until a week after the test begins. The Logic and Accuracy test is required by law to be performed prior to each election. Logic and Accuracy tests will include proofing the programming of the ballot, each ballot style and each contest position on the ballot. The process is open to the public.

Experience Orange County's New Vote Centers and Voting System: Mock Election Taking Place January 7th

The public is invited to attend Orange County’s mock election, which will showcase the new voting system and introduce the new experience of Vote Center voting.

SANTA ANA, CA – On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, the Orange County Registrar of Voters will be conducting a mock election to showcase the features of Vote Centers and the County’s new voting system. The public is invited to attend and learn about the benefits of Orange County’s transition to Vote Centers, such as being able to register to vote, cast an in-person ballot, obtain replacement ballots and more. In addition, voters will be able to cast a mock ballot on the new voting system.

The key benefits of the transition to Vote Centers include:

No Party Preference Voters Who Plan on Voting for President: Plan Today

No Party Preference Voters that want to vote for U.S. President must request a primary election ballot with presidential candidates.

SANTA ANA, CA – If you are a No Party Preference voter and want to vote for a presidential candidate, the Registrar of Voters needs to hear which ballot you would like by January 2nd for March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election. No Party Preference voters that do not inform the Registrar of Voters will receive a ballot without presidential candidates.

Extension of Candidate Filing Period for the Presidential Primary Election

When incumbents do not file for re-election the filing period is extended.

SANTA ANA, CA - The Registrar of Voters announced today that the nomination period has been extended until December 11, 2019, 5:00 p.m. for the office listed below because the incumbent failed to file Nomination Papers by the December 6, 2019 deadline.

Any qualified person, other than the incumbent, can now file the Nomination Papers until December 11, 2019, 5:00 p.m., in the office of the Registrar of Voters, 1300 South Grand Avenue, Building C, Santa Ana, California.

Extension of Declaration of Intention for Superior Court Judicial Offices

Judicial filing requirement extended for Superior Court Judge, Office No. 4

SANTA ANA, CA – The Registrar of Voters announced today that the Declaration of Intention period for candidates for judicial offices of the Superior Court has been extended until November 12, 2019, 5:00 p.m. for the office listed below for the March 3, 2020 Primary Election, because the incumbent failed to file Declaration of Intention papers by the November 6, 2019 deadline.

SANTA ANA, CA - Accuracy testing of Orange County's voting system will take place Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. for the November 5, 2019 , 2019 General District Election. The Logic and Accuracy test is required by law to be performed prior to each election. Logic and Accuracy tests will include proofing the programming of the ballot, each ballot style and each contest position on the ballot. The process is open to the public.

Media Preview of New Orange County Voting System and Vote Centers

Media attendees will be able to see mock vote center set-up with new voting system equipment

SANTA ANA, CA – On Monday, September 16, 2019, the Orange County Registrar of Voters will provide a media preview to interested outlets of the County’s new voting system, which will be used for the first time during the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary Election. Orange County is transitioning to a vote center environment in 2020.

The voting system (Verity Voting System from Hart InterCivic) was approved for purchase by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Orange County, CA Elections to Host Public Hearing on Draft Election Administration Plan

The public hearing will go over draft operational and outreach plans during the transition to the vote center model of voting and elections.

SANTA ANA, CA – The Registrar of Voters will be hosting a public meeting to present its draft Election Administration Plan (EAP), which is the plan that will be used to implement Vote Centers in Orange County, on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Orange County Department of Education.

Orange County, CA Elections Releases Survey Data from 2018 Primary and General Elections

Comparative data now available for elections spanning nearly a decade - from 2009 to 2018

SANTA ANA, CA - Today the Orange County Registrar of Voters released results of multiple operational surveys, designed to measure quality and service, taken during the 2018 Primary and General elections. 

Caltech Independent Review Concludes that 2018 Election Administration in Orange County, CA was Conducted with a "High Degree of Integrity"

After lengthy review and analysis, California Institute of Technology concludes that Orange County's election administration was "without compromise".

SANTA ANA, CA – California Institute of Technology (Caltech) has released its report, Assuring Election Integrity: A Comprehensive Ecological Framework for Evaluating Elections in Southern California, which followed a yearlong effort to develop and implement a wide variety of tools to study the integrity of elections in Orange County.
